designing responsibly
Luxury packaging can be both desirable and responsible. Esprit du Luxe builds eco-design in from the first sketch: less material, recyclable mono-materials, certified or recycled papers and boards, organic inks, solvent-free glues, short manufacturing circuits whenever possible.
We assess the options available for each project with you, measuring their effect on the result, the cost and the logistics, with no compromise on perceived quality.

In practice: choosing ecological and recyclable papers and boards, working to eliminate plastic, favouring short circuits and local industries, taking part in the circular economy.
Materials
Papers made of recycled fibres and compliant with forest management standards, recycled boards, certified creative papers, vegetable-tanned leathers, natural-fibre fabrics, bio-based alternatives. We keep an up-to-date sample library to compare look, feel and impact. We recommend the most appropriate material for each use.
Processes
Offset printing with organic inks, odourless varnishes, biodegradable laminations or no lamination at all, solvent-free glues, stampings and embossings that replace plastic applications, optimised cutting to reduce waste. We prefer finishes that do not prevent the recycling of the substrate.
Design less, design better
Reduce the volume and weight of a box, remove unnecessary over-packaging, move from a multi-material assembly to a mono-material structure, plan for the reuse of the object. For each project we propose a leaner version alongside the reference version, with its consequences on the result and the cost.
Measure and explain
We document the choices of materials and processes so that you can talk about them to your clients precisely, without excessive claims. On request, we support your teams in wording the responsible messages of the packaging and its accompanying documents.

Any house that wants to evolve its packaging and print without losing the emotion on opening: watchmaking, jewellery, cosmetics, gastronomy, institutions. The Esprit du Luxe R&D Studio in Geneva works on these questions every day with its partners.
Frequently asked questions
Does eco-designed packaging cost more?
Not necessarily. Reducing material and simplifying the structure often lowers the cost. Some certified materials cost more; we measure the effect item by item.
Can you certify our choices?
We document materials and processes with the suppliers' certifications, so that your messages remain precise and verifiable.
What about the plastic in an existing packaging?
We study its replacement with board inserts, plastic-free windows or mono-material structures, keeping the effect on opening.
